_ On the State Forum 2012 page,
you will find the documents necessary to register for the 2012 State
Latin Forum, which will take place at the Orlando Wyndham Resort April
12-14. This is a rather lengthy message with a lot of information; please
read it thoroughly, as there are a number of special notes and changes
for this year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to
contact me.
2012 State Packet 1 of 6 Rules and Registration:
This document contains the rules and registration forms for State. This
is a protected document, meaning that you can only make changes in the
specified form fields. You must completely fill out the registration
form in order to compete at State. After you have entered the necessary
information, print the document. This should ensure that all the fields
auto-populate. Finally, use the save as command to rename the document
with your school’s name. Mail the printed version to me postmarked by
the deadline, and e-mail the electronic version to me no later than the
deadline.
Special note about contests: Each student may compete in only two contests (not counting Certamen and Ludi/Olympika).
This means that each student may register for two academic tests, an
academic test and a costume/oral, or an academic test and a project. If a
student enters more than two contests, ONLY the two listed on his/her
official registration will count; the other contest(s) will be
disqualified. The Registration Form only allows you to enter two contest
numbers for this reason! [The only exception to the two contest rule is
a student taking the Academic Decathlon or the Greek Language tests,
because these tests do not count for Sweepstakes points.] These rules
may not be the same as your Regional rules, so if you have any
questions, please contact me.
2012 State Packet 2 of 6 Hotel Certamen Ludi Elections: This document contains the necessary information to register for the hotel, for Certamen, for Ludi/Olympika
events, and for elections. These registrations should be submitted to
the people indicated in document 1. Please pay careful attention to the
hotel’s deadlines. If you have any trouble with the deadline, please
contact the hotel. Make sure to follow up with the hotel prior to State
in order to ensure that reservations and payment have been received.
Special note for Regional Certamen Winners:
Although the winners of each Region’s Certamen tournament automatically
qualify to play at State, it is still necessary for the winners to
submit the Certamen Registration form, so that Generosa knows how many teams intend to compete.
Special note about Ludi: No cleated shoes will be allowed for the Olympika events this year.
Special note about Club of the Year vs. Publicity:
The judges of Club of the Year and Publicity have asked that I remind
everyone that these two contests are NOT the same thing, and so
submissions to the contests should not be duplicates. While publicity is
a part of determining Club of the Year, there are many other aspects to
the contest, including club meetings, club events, competitions, and
community service. The judges will no longer accept one set of documents
as an entry to both contests.
2012 State Packet 3 of 6 Academics and Sweepstakes:
This document contains information about the Academic contests offered
at State as well as the determination of Sweepstakes points. Please note:
the PMAQ test will now be offered to Level ½ students. We are also
piloting a Greek Language test this year. This test will be in addition
to a student’s other two contests and will NOT count for Sweepstakes
points.
2012 State Packet 4 of 6 Orals and Costumes: This document contains the rules for costumes, declamations, dramatic interpretations, and orations.
Please note: The dramatic interpretation passages used are now the same
as those being used at the upcoming National Convention at Wake Forest.
These are the same passages used at your Regional competition. You may
find links to the passages from the State Forum 2012 section of the FJCL.org website.
2012 State Packet 5 of 6 Projects: This document contains the rules for the various project categories, including pre-judged projects. Please note:
At State, a Project counts as one of a student’s competitive contests;
s/he may not submit a project AND take two tests. If that happens,
whichever contest is not listed on the school registration form will be
disqualified.
Special note about Pre-Judged Categories:
The deadline for the pre-judged contests is the same as the regular
registration deadline. There will be no late registration for pre-judged
projects. If you had planned to submit a pre-judged project, but then
you missed the registration deadline, you will need to change the
pre-judged project to another contest.
2012 State Packet 6 of 6 Forum Checklist: This document is a helpful checklist for students and sponsors.
