Congratulations to Geoff Revard, CAF Teacher of the Year!

Welcome to the Classical Association of Florida

From the CAF President

Salvete Omnes!

N.B. If you had already sent out your FFLA registration from the form that was online, then you had the correct address. The form I sent out on Tuesday had the incorrect address. The one attached to this letter is correct
Welcome back to the new school year. I saw some of you during the summer at ACL Institute and at the National Forum where we had a meeting brief meeting on the CAF constitution – but more on that later. Once again Florida students performed wonderfully, and there were some outstanding performances by Florida teachers at the first ever World Series of Certamen as well. My hat is off to all of you for the long hours of work that I know these fine showing have behind them. The state Forum Planning meeting went well this past weekend. I think that the State Forum will be even better this year at the Wyndham Jacksonville Riverwalk.
First among the forms along with this letter you will find a registration form for the Florida Foreign Language Association’s conference in October at the Rosen Centre in Orlando. Many of you may have already found the registration for the conference and the hotel on the FFLA (http://www.ffla.us/conference/index.htm) website. I am enclosing a corrected copy along with this letter. Not only will we have some fine presentations by our Florida colleagues, but we also will have Bob Patrick coming to join us from Atlanta speaking on the use of oral Latin as a major means of instruction in the Latin classroom. I really enjoyed his talk at ACL this summer and I know you too will find what he has to say both fun and worthwhile.
This year’s Classical Association of Florida activities should also prove interesting and important. I am looking forward to Karen Rieffel’s talk on mosaics at the CAF Luncheon on Friday. Saturday’s CAF meeting will have important constitutional issues presented which we will be voting on there and at the CAF meeting in April. I will send out a separate mailing shortly with the current CAF constitution and some proposals for discussion.
You will also find a number of important forms attached with this mailing:
Classical Association of Florida Membership Form
Florida Junior Classical League Membership Form
American Classical League Membership Form
CAMWS Membership Form
Tallahassee Certamen Workshop Information and Registration
Tampa Area Certamen Workshop Information and Registration
Florida Junior Classical League Scholarship Application
You will find the appropriate deadlines and listed within each form.
As I mentioned above our State Forum will be in April. I that the various regions can let us know the place and date for each Regional Forum by FFLA. I know I have started inquiring around my own region!
If any of you have any questions about things in this packet or if I can be of help to you, please do not hesitate to drop me a line via email. And in the meantime I will hope to see you all in Orlando at FFLA and the CAF meeting there.

All the best,
Geoff Revard
