FJCL Registrar's Vital Registration Information
_
Attached, you will find the documents necessary to register for the 2013 State Latin Forum, which will take place at the Orlando Wyndham Resort April 11-13. This is a rather lengthy message with a lot of information; please read it thoroughly, as there are a number of special notes and changes for this year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please note the deadlines. Registration materials must be e-mailed by March 9. Hard copies of the registration documents must be mailed with a postmark date no later than March 9. Late registrations may be submitted with a $50 late fee until March 16. The hotel must RECEIVE your first night's payment by March 11, and your balance must be paid by March 22.
There are 6 documents that relate specifically to State Registration.
2013 State Packet 1 of 6 Rules and Registration Information: This document contains the rules and registration information for State, including deadlines and mailing addresses. Please read this document carefully, particularly the information which has been added about non-competitive, additional delegates.
2013 State Packet 2 of 6 Registration Forms: This document requires you to use Microsoft Word. It is a protected document, which means that you can only make changes in the specified form fields. Because this is a protected document, you will NOT be able to use your mouse to select any text which is not part of a form field (the highlighted areas). The easiest way to navigate through the document is to use the TAB key. You must completely fill out the registration forms in order to compete at State.
After you have entered the necessary information, print the document. This will ensure that all the fields auto-populate. Finally, use the save as command to rename the document with your school’s name. Mail the printed version to me postmarked by the deadline, and e-mail the electronic version to me no later than the deadline.
Special note about contests: Each student may compete in only two contests (not counting Certamen and Ludi/Olympika). This means that each student may register for two academic tests, an academic test and a costume/oral, or an academic test and a project. If a student enters more than two contests, ONLY the two listed on his/her official registration will count; the other contest(s) will be disqualified. The Registration Form only allows you to enter two contest numbers for this reason! [The only exception to the two contest rule is a student taking the Academic Decathlon or the Greek Language tests, because these tests do not count for Sweepstakes points.] These rules may not be the same as your Regional rules, so if you have any questions, please contact me.
2013 State Packet 3 of 6 Hotel Certamen Additional Delegate Registration: This document contains the necessary information for reserving your rooms at the hotel, for registering for Competitive Certamen, and for registering your Additional Delegates. Refer to page 2 of the Rules and Registration Information document for an explanation of the Additional Delegates. These registrations should be submitted to the people indicated in the Rules and Registration Information document. Please pay careful attention to the hotel’s deadlines. If you have any trouble with the deadline, please contact the hotel. Make sure to follow up with the hotel prior to State in order to ensure that reservations and payment have been received.
Special note for Regional Certamen Winners: Although the winners of each Region’s Certamen tournament automatically qualify to play at State, it is still necessary for the winners to submit a Certamen Registration, so that Generosa knows how many teams intend to compete.
2013 State Packet 4 of 6 Academics and Sweepstakes: This document contains detailed information about level of Latin AND student eligibility. This document also lists the Academic contests offered at State and explains how points are awarded for Sweepstakes. Please read it carefully.
2013 State Packet 5 of 6 Orals and Costumes: This document contains the rules for costumes, declamations, dramatic interpretations, and orations. You may find links to the passages in the State Forum section of the FJCL.org website.
2013 State Packet 6 of 6 Projects: This document contains the rules for the various project categories, including pre-judged projects. Please note: At State, a Project counts as one of a student’s competitive contests; s/he may not submit a project AND take two tests. If that happens, whichever contest is not listed on the school registration form will be disqualified.
Special note about Pre-Judged Contests: The deadline for the pre-judged contests is the same as the regular registration deadline. There will be no late registration for pre-judged projects. If your registration indicates a pre-judged project, but you miss the submission deadline for pre-judged projects, you must change the pre-judged project to another contest.
The registration information for Ludi/Olympika Events and the information about elections will come in a separate e-mail.
I have also attached the documents listed below, which are not directly related to State Forum Registration and Contests.
State Forum Checklist: This document is a helpful checklist for students and sponsors.
CAF Essay Contest: This document comes to us from Dr. Jim Sickinger at FSU, and it contains the rules and information for the essay contest being offered by CAF in conjunction with the Classics Department at FSU. This is not a requirement for State Forum, but the winners will be announced at State.
2013 Florida Junior Classical League Scholarship Application: Information and application for the FJCL Scholarship.
Sources for FJCL Academic Tests: This document lists sources used for all FJCL Academic contests. Please note that this list is meant to be a starting point and is by no means comprehensive. Other relevant sources may be used by test writers.
