Congratulations to May's Club of the Month, Trinity Preparatory School! Trinity Prep’s activities focused on spreading love for the classics throughout their school and community in an event known as National Classics Week. TPS JCL had a lights out hour at school in order to save energy, held coin wars, and put together a fundraiser with Yogurtland. All of the proceeds from the coin war were donated to help recovery in Nepal. They also celebrated Rome’s birthday by having a party after school and participating in Cupid Compliments. Each student wrote three compliments to another student. They got the middle school students involved in celebration by holding Certamen rounds during lunch. They concluded the celebration with a club movie night. Excellent job!
If you'd like your club to be considered for Club of the Month, email a brief description of your activities to the FJCL Vice President. Salvete, FJCL! Next week is National Classics Week (April 19-25) - a time not only to celebrate the birth of wonderful Rome, but also a time to have fun with other JCLers and give back to the community.
Here are some ideas to help you celebrate and give back this week:
Congratulations to March's FJCL Club of the Month, Stanton College Prep! Stanton JCL created a service project called "Litterae Amoris" in order to show their love and support for their community. They brought in supplies such as paper, markers, ribbon, and glitter to make over 150 cards to give to the elderly. These cards were then distributed by Meals on Wheels along with their meals for the day. They would like to give special thanks to Stanton Latin Club officers Evan Qu and Joyce Hu for helping to organize this project. :)
Salvete! With Regional Fora over, State Latin Forum is quickly approaching, and with that comes the election of new FJCL Officers. If you are interested in running for a position, I encourage you to talk to your sponsor and complete a Declaration of Candidacy form, which can be found in the State Forum registration packet. Any member in good standing may run for office as long as he or she has attended at least one State Forum (one National Convention is required for President and Vice President candidates). If you do decide to run, please make yourself familiar with the election rules, especially those concerning campaign spending limits. The rules can all be found in the State Forum registration packet. Candidacy forms, including Uvae Vitis materials, must be submitted by your sponsor with your school’s Ludi packet by March 14. If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected].
Sincerely, Brian Nyffenegger FJCL Parliamentarian |
